Thirty-five student musicians from the Brownsville Independent School District have been named to the Texas All State Band and Texas All State Choir and will participate in this year’s Texas Music Educators Association convention taking place today through Saturday.
Starting with auditions each fall across Texas, the best high school music students are selected to rehearse and perform during the annual TMEA convention. This year, the audition path leading to the selection of 1,800 All-Staters remained a rigorous and meaningful journey, as students submitted recordings for three levels of virtual auditions.
After being evaluated and ranked at each of those levels, Brownsville ISD had 35 students selected for the honor of being an “All-Stater.”
For the first time, this year’s TMEA convention will be a virtual convention. While these students will not get to perform together in person, they are to be commended for pursuing a higher level of musicianship and earning this honor.
