The Edinburg Police Department is investigating a crash that left one man in critical condition after being found in a canal early Friday morning.

Authorities arrived around 2 a.m. in the 2300 block of West Sprague Street in response to a “major accident” in the area, according to a news release.

When they arrived they found a “vehicle overturned in a canal,” and immediately jumped in to rescue a female from the vehicle, according to the release.

She sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover, authorities said.

Officers went back into the canal to rescue a male who was still stuck inside the vehicle. He was unresponsive and the officers began CPR.

The male was taken to a local hospital where authorities say he remains in critical condition. Officials have also yet to identify those involved.
