A 35-year-old Roma man on Thursday was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after being found with 5,460 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $33 million.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas said in a news release that Adan Ontiveros Jr. pleaded guilty on April 24 to conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute the more than two tons of marijuana.

Ontiveros was arrested on July 16, 2020 as law enforcement were conducting surveillance at a suspected drug house in Roma, according to the release.

Authorities saw him attempting to discreetly exit the residence.

“He was trying to escape via an attic vent,” the release stated. “However, authorities quickly took him into custody.”

Investigators found hundreds of bundles in the residence and Ontiveros admitted he was aware of the marijuana in the stash house.
