A subcontractor working for the Texas Department of Transportation was killed early Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle towing another vehicle in Edinburg.

According to a city news release issued Sunday, Edinburg police responded to an auto-pedestrian death at around 6:40 p.m. in the vicinity of Farm-to-Market Road 490 and North Interstate 69-C, where the TxDOT subcontractor had been installing roadwork construction signs on the southbound lane of I-69-C.

The crash occurred when a motorist towing a “just in tow” vehicle “veered onto the grassy median and subsequently struck the worker,” who was being escorted by a convoy at the time.

The subcontractor, identified only as an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Edinburg police are currently investigating the crash.
