U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Monday apprehended a 47-year-old man on an outstanding murder warrant when he arrived at the Hidalgo International Bridge.

CBP said in a news release that it turned Rigoberto Resendez Jr., a U.S. citizen from Queretaro, Mexico, over to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office after determining he had an active warrant.

CBP used biometric verification to determine he had the active arrest warrant, according to the news release.

He has been wanted since June of 2000, according to the release.

“CBP screens all travelers entering the United States and we are committed to bringing in those individuals to face criminal charges,” Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas, said in the release.

Jail records indicate Resendez is being held on a $250,000 bond.
