In celebration of Día de los Niños and Día de los Libros, the McAllen Public Library will be holding a free, family friendly event Sunday.

The event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library, located at 4001 N. 23rd St.

Families who attend will receive a free book as well as snacks, while supplies last. The event will also feature author Eliza Garza and family band Juan C and the Key Limes.

The library encourages children to dress up as their favorite book character, join the parade and take home a goodie bag.

People between the ages of 9 and 18 are also encouraged to dress up as their favorite cosplay character, and enter a contest where they can win prizes, the release stated.

“Developing a solid foundation in literacy is pivotal to children’s futures, and we’re excited to make books and the library accessible to children and families in a fun way,” McAllen Public Library Director Kate Horan said in the release.

For more information about the event, contact the library’s children’s department at (956) 681-3010.
