Wrong way driver dies in crash 25 miles north of Edinburg

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a two-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of an Edinburg man.

According to a news release, the crash occurred Thursday evening on U.S. Highway 281, roughly 25 miles north of Edinburg.

At approximately 6:10 p.m., a 2014 Nissan Sentra was traveling southbound on the northbound lanes of 281 when it collided head-on with a 2021 Lexus GX460 that was traveling northbound on the same road.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as 46-year-old Roberto Carlos Robles of Edinburg, died of his injuries at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

A woman was the only occupant of the Lexus. She was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

DPS troopers continue to investigate the crash.
