Quinta Mazatlan is hosting a Monarch Festival on Saturday in honor of the monarch butterfly.
For Quinta Mazatlan, the purpose of the festival is to raise awareness and educate attendees about the monarch butterfly species while attendees also enjoy various festivities.
The festivities will begin at 9 a.m. and run till 2 p.m. on Saturday at Quinta Mazatlan, which is located at 600 Sunset Drive in McAllen.
The festival will feature a Mayor’s Bug Parade that will kick off at 11 a.m. Attendees who wish to participate in the parade are encouraged to wear orange, wear wings or even dress as their favorite bug.
Not only will attendees be able to participate in the parade but they will also have the opportunity to purchase a native milkweed plant where monarch butterflies often lay their eggs.
Other festivities include live music, dancing, artisan vendors, arts and crafts, scout and youth projects, and other activities. Attendees will also be able to add their own “personal splash of color” to Quinta Mazatlan’s monarch mural, according to a news release.
The event will also give members of the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts the opportunity to fulfill badge requirements.
