Greater Brownsville Incentives Corp. taps Montero as business retention chief

Pablo Montero

The Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation has named Pablo Montero as its new director of business retention and expansion.

Montero, formerly employed by the port logistics and transport company APM Terminals, succeeds Ramiro Aleman in the role. Aleman stepped down from GBIC last fall after being hired by the San Benito Economic Development Corporation as its new executive director.

GBIC, in announcing Montero’s appointment, described Montero as a “highly ambitious professional” with more than seven years experience overseeing and managing economic growth in the global market. With APM, he was involved in import/export document verification and responsible for ensuring compliance with customs policies and guidelines, according to GBIC.

In his new role, Montero will be in charge of cultivating relationships with “external stakeholders to sustain and increase the pro-business atmosphere of the greater Brownsville region,” said the economic development organization.

“He has experience with sales and finance that help drive market share and profitable revenue growth, and he understands the logistics of working with international partners,” GBIC said.

Montero holds a bachelor’s degree in Maritime and Supply Chain Management from Old Dominion University and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from St. Leo University.

Constanza Miner, GBIC interim executive director and CEO, said she feels Montero “aligns well with our organization’s goals and will support GBIC’s economic development strategy.”

“As Brownsville grows we must enhance our service offerings to support our business relationships with existing and potential new partners,” she said.

GBIC’s focus is on facilitating economic growth by promoting investment and working with regional and international partners in job creation, innovation, business development and manufacturing.

Montero said he was glad to have the opportunity to contribute to the future of the region.

“I have expert knowledge of import and export operations in the transportation industry as well as heavy industry,” he said. “It is my goal to leverage my knowledge and experience in these industries to bring value to the Brownsville community as well as our economic development partners.”
