The Texas Department of Public Safety arrested a 46-year-old woman on Sunday for a fatal crash that killed her 51-year-old passenger.

In a news release, DPS said troopers arrested Norma Munoz on a charge of intoxication manslaughter following the fatal crash that happened at approximately 8:43 p.m. on Cesar Chavez Road south of Minnesota Road in San Juan.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Munoz and her passenger, Gerardo Medina, were traveling south on Cesar Chavez Road when Munoz lost control of the vehicle and veered off the roadway, causing a rollover.

Medina, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected.

“The Chevrolet came to rest on top of the ejected passenger’s head,” the release stated.

A probable cause affidavit for her arrest stated that Munoz admitted to consuming approximately 10 Michelob Ultra beers prior to the crash.

That document also said she failed a standard field sobriety test and consented to a breath test, which revealed a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
