Investigation ongoing in death of man who crashed into utility pole in Weslaco

Weslaco police are continuing to investigate the death of a 39-year-old man who crashed his vehicle into a utility pole in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Chief Joel Rivera said Sunday that no new developments have occurred since his department released details of the incident Saturday, but did say that investigators are still working the case.

According to a Weslaco Police Department news release Saturday, a man identified as 39-year-old Hector Rodriguez was killed after losing control of the 2008 Ford F-250 he was driving and struck the pole in the 800 block of West IH-2.

Police got the call about the crash, which authorities described as a single-vehicle accident, around 2 a.m. and confirmed that Rodriguez had died from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This is an active investigation, and the City of Weslaco Police Department is asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Weslaco Police Criminal Investigations Division…,” the release stated.
