A 32-year-old Brownsville man surrendered to police Saturday for accusations that he hit his ex-wife with his vehicle and then rammed the vehicle of a man she had gone to a party with.

Police said in a news release that Juan Miguel Garca Jr. is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The incident happened on Sept. 18 when Brownsville patrol officers went to the 2700 block of Cairo Street.

“Garza arrived at the location and noticed his ex-spouse was with a male at a party,” the news release stated. “Garza’s ex-spouse and the male were already leaving the party as Garza was arriving. Garza started to yell and wanted to fight with the male subject.”

Police said that man then got in his vehicle and left the area with Garza following him in his truck.

“Garza’s ex-spouse got in front of Garza’s vehicle for him not to follow the male subject,” the release stated. “Garza accelerated and struck the female.”

The woman fell to the ground but said she was not injured, according to police, who said Garza took off to follow the man.

“The female then got a phone call from the male subject stating that Garza had rammed his car. The male advised that he was ok and did not report the altercation,” the release stated.

The woman went to police to follow-up and investigators obtained a warrant for Garza’s arrest.

“Garza turned himself in as soon as he was aware of his warrant,” the release stated.

He received a $10,000 bond, according to police.
