Mission man indicted on 52 counts of sex crimes against children

A 52-year-old Mission man is facing three indictments charging him with more than 50 sex crimes against children.

Authorities booked Ruben Rojas Guerrero into the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on Friday.

Details about the allegations against Guerrero are scant, as court cases involving sexual abuse allegations against children are not available through online court records.

Hidalgo County District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez Jr. did not immediately respond to a request for more information about the allegations.

The 52 charges against Guerrero range from indecency with a child by sexual contact to aggravated sexual assault of a child to sexual assault of a child.

Online jail records indicate the alleged offense dates span a decade, from 2004 to 2014.

However, the vast majority of those offense dates landed in August over the 10-year period, with the exception of 2010 when there are six offenses dated on Dec. 4, 2010.

Those same records also show the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office first arrested Guerrero in 2020 on three counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child where the victim is under 14.

It’s not immediately clear whether the indictments have overlapping offenses or whether there is more than one child involved.

As of 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, Guerrero had not received a bond.
