2 Mission men accused of string of violent robberies

Heriberto Aguirre and Heriberto Lozano

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office have arrested two men who they accuse of violently robbing three people in late August and mid-September.

The first alleged aggravated robbery occurred on Aug. 24 when Heriberto Aguirre and Heriberto Lozano, both 24-year-old Mission residents, forced a man into the passenger vehicle seat of his vehicle at gunpoint before taking his cellphone, money and vehicle north of Mile 5 Line on La Homa in Mission, according to a news release.

Less than a week later, on Aug. 30, sheriff’s investigators allege that three men, one armed with a rifle, punched and kicked him before taking his truck in the 2800 block of Buena Vida Street in Mission.

Then on Sept. 17, authorities allege two men in a Tahoe stopped a man and began to punch him, forcing him out of his vehicle on Azul Street, south of Mile 10 Line on Bentsen Palm Drive.

The news release said investigators identified Aguirre and Lozano “through witness statements, photo line-ups and further investigative work.”

On Thursday, sheriff’s deputies with the assistance of U.S Marshals arrested Lozano in Donna and Aguirre in Weslaco without incident.

Lozano is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one charge of robbery. He received a total of $450,000 in bonds.

Aguirre is charged with one count of robbery and two counts of possession of a controlled substance and received a total of $130,000 in bonds.

“This is still an active investigation,” the release stated. “We encourage witnesses with any additional information regarding this case to come forward.”
