2 San Juan residents die in major Sunday crash

The city of Edinburg has identified two people who died in a major crash on Sunday as San Juan residents.

In a news release sent Wednesday, the city said 37-year-old Elizabeth Gonzalez Jimenez and 30-year-old Eden Alberis Romero Archaga died in the crash that happened in the 4000 block of south Interstate 69 at approximately 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

When police arrived at the scene, officers found a dark gray Chrysler Crossfire had rolled over in the northbound lanes and saw Gonzalez lying in the roadway next to the vehicle, according to the release.

Officers also found a white Dodge Ram pick-up truck with front-end damage to the driver side and a Peterbilt big rig with a car transport trailer stopped along the expressway.

“During the course of the investigation, officers learned that both the big rig and the pickup truck had collided with the Chrysler Crossfire,” the release stated.

The city said Gonzalez was driving the Crossfire and that Romero was her passenger.

The drivers of the other involved vehicles were not injured or identified.

Police said toxicology results are pending.
