Traffic switch coming to Highway 100 in Los Fresnos

If you are planning to travel on Highway 100 near Los Fresnos on Thursday, be prepared for a traffic switch on the highway.

A traffic switch is planned near Los Fresnos, between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

All traffic will shift over to the north side of State Highway 100, from Mesquite Street to Alamo Street, to allow for construction on the south side of State Highway 100.

TxDOT states drivers should expect delays and are advised to observe and follow all posted warning signs, traffic control devices, and speed limit signs.

TxDOT’s “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” campaign offers these reminders for drivers traveling through work zones:

>> Slow down. Follow the posted speed limit and drive to conditions. Remember, traffic fines double in work zones when workers are present;

>> Pay attention. Avoid distractions and put your phone away;

>> Watch out for road crews. The only protective gear they wear is reflective clothing, a hard hat, and safety boots. Remember, they want to get home safe, too;

>> Don’t tailgate. Give yourself room to stop in a hurry if you have to. Rear-end collisions are the most common type of crash in work zones;

>> Allow extra time. Road construction can slow everything down. Count on it, and plan for it.
