Edinburg police said in a news release that a 59-year-old man admitted to sexually assaulting a child.
Authorities have charged Luis Padilla, an Edinburg resident, with aggravated assault of a child.
Officers were dispatched to a home in the 700 block of East McIntyre Street just before 4 a.m. Monday morning in reference to a possible sexual assault of a child, according to the release.
Police spoke with the child and Padilla, who investigators said incriminated himself.
Authorities booked Padilla into the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center where he remains held on a $100,000 bond.
The case remains under investigation.
