Good Neighbor Settlement House will be hosting its first fundraising event since the start of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic—and its first charity fashion show.
‘Walking in Style’ is set to start at 7 p.m. Friday at Rancho Viejo Casa Grande.
Good Neighbor Settlement House is a multi-service nonprofit assisting the needy men, women and children of Brownsville through various programs that provide meals, clothing, showers and support services. Some of the programs at the nonprofit are its soup kitchen providing three means per day Monday through Friday and the respite program which offers basic needs like a meal, a shower, a place to sleep to people seeking asylum after being released by Customs Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
With all the proceeds from the event benefiting the nonprofit, the fashion show will feature a mixture of shoe and clothing designs from designers John Ashford, Jacobo Borge, Kasia Roginska and model Lori-ann Marchese.
Executive Director Astrid Dominguez told The Herald there will also be local artists playing music and there will be a couple of raffles at the event as well.
“Good Neighbor is also going to be showing and sharing with the participants the work that we’ve done this year, the programs we have and how their generous donations will continue to support the work that we currently do to support the unsheltered population,” Dominguez said.
Money raised by the event will go toward renovating the nonprofits facility, which includes the kitchen, the clinic and the historical building itself to improve and increase the services provided to the community.
General admission for the fashion is $70 and can be bought by calling the nonprofit at (956)- 542-2368 or buying them at its office at 1254 E. Tyler Street.
