Pharr police ‘make contact,’ interview kidnapping victim

UPDATE: 5:35 p.m.

Pharr police released a video of the kidnapping.

Pharr police detectives made contact Wednesday with an inspector at a border logistics facility who was reportedly kidnapped Tuesday morning when he showed up for work, according to a news release from police.

Detectives spoke with 46-year-old Jose Santiago Perez-Barragan at the Pharr Police Department, but the city declined to release any additional information about how detectives made contact with Perez.

Police responded to the kidnapping just after 8 a.m. Tuesday at Mass Logistics, which is located at 9601 International Drive.

The alleged kidnappers, who were armed, forced the man into a white F-250 pick-up.

“Perez-Barragan is a Mexican worker who crosses the border every day with a group of co-workers and is an inspector at the facility,” the release said.

Detectives believe at least two people were inside the truck during the kidnapping and said the vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on Anaya Road.

On Tuesday night, Pharr police asked for the public’s help in locating the truck, which has gold trim.

It’s not immediately clear whether police located the truck, but the city’s Wednesday update does not mention the truck.

Police have not established a motive for the kidnapping.

The Wednesday news release did not indicate whether the interview with Perez helped establish a motive.

Law enforcement agencies routinely do not release information that may interfere with an investigation.

Wednesday’s release said Perez returned to Mexico.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the case to contact Pharr Crime Stoppers at (956) 787-TIPS.

Tipsters may remain anonymous.
