Skateboarder hit, killed by truck in Edinburg

A 30-year-old man riding his skateboard died Thursday night after being hit by a truck in Edinburg.

The fatal incident happened at 10 p.m. in the 800 block of North Closner Boulevard in Edinburg where police responded to an accident involving a motor vehicle and a man on a skateboard, according to a news release.

When officers arrived they found Richard Orlando Hernandez, an Edinburg resident, in the middle of the road and a black 2010 Ford F-250 pickup truck stopped in the center lane.

Investigators believe Hernandez, who was wearing dark-colored clothing, was riding his skateboard northbound in the center lane of North Closner Boulevard when the Ford F-250 struck him.

That vehicle’s 17-year-old driver stopped to render aid, but the man died at the scene according to the release.
