A tip led police to a 19-year-old man who is accused of targeting four smoke shops in Pharr and other neighboring cities, according to a news release police sent Tuesday.

Police believe Edwin Diaz entered the Black Sheep Smoke Shop, located at 1513 S. Cage Blvd. in Pharr, shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday and demanded that the clerk turn around and not move.

Diaz allegedly made-off with 26 CBD vape pen refill cartridges valued at about $2,600, the release said.

But it wasn’t the first time he targeted the Black Sheep Smoke Shop, police said. Investigators believe Diaz also burglarized the company’s branch at 5815 S. Cage Blvd. and another smoke shop called Shroomies Smoke Shop located at 5818 S. Cage Blvd.

Police also believe he tried to burglarize a third branch of Black Sheep Smoke Shop located at 1100 N. Cage Blvd.

After Saturday’s robbery, Pharr police asked the public for help and released surveillance footage from one of the businesses Diaz allegedly targeted.

Police received a tip that led investigators to Diaz, and he was charged with robbery, a first degree felony, two counts of burglary of a building, a state jail felony, and one count of criminal attempted burglary of a building, a class A misdemeanor.

“Diaz is also suspected of similar crimes in surrounding cities,” police said in the release, but did not provide further details.

His bond was set at $22,000.
