A 51-year-old Edinburg man charged with bestiality fled through a barn window after being caught in the act of fondling the rear end of a mare, according to an affidavit for his arrest.
Special rangers from the Texas Cattle Raisers Association arrested Cirilo Castillo, who has a history dating back to 2011 of this type of allegation, on Wednesday and charged him.
The affidavit said two San Juan residents became suspicious that something was happening in their barn last October when they noticed someone was leaving a wooden bench inside a horse stall.
As the months passed, they would find either a wooden bench or lawn chair in one of the stalls occupied by a horse.
“A video surveillance system was then installed for evidence,” the affidavit stated.
On March 26, one of the residents was reviewing video around 10:22 p.m. when she observed a man, later identified as Castillo, walking around inside the stalls, according to the affidavit.
“Castillo could be seen entering the stall, run (sic) his hand on the rear end of one horse, then jump the gate to the stall of the pregnant mare,” the affidavit stated.
That document said the residents then ran outside and confronted Castillo.
“Castillo then began to fumble with the front of his pants crotch area and then jump out the barn window,” the affidavit stated.
The residents chased Castillo, who got away.
The affidavit says a review of the video revealed that Castillo entered the stall through a window.
“Castillo can be seen running his hand under the horse tail touching the genitalia, then jumping the stall to the second mare,” the affidavit stated. “Castillo then get (sic) a lawn chair from the ally of the barn, jumps back in the stall, stumbles around and approaches the mare from the rear end.”
The affidavit said he then fondles the “anus area” of the mare while he is standing on the chair.
Castillo previously made headlines for three similar arrests between 2011 and 2015.
In the last instance, he was caught because the horse broke Castillo’s leg.
He remains jailed in the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on a $2,500 bond.
