Zero COVID-19 deaths, 32 new cases, reported across in RGV

There were no COVID-19 related deaths reported across the Rio Grande Valley on Thursday, though county officials reported another 32 cases in the region.

While there were no deaths due to COVID-related causes among Hidalgo County residents, there were an additional 15 cases, according to a news release issued by the county.

The 15 newly reported cases consisted of 12 confirmed and three probable cases.

That raised the county’s total number of recorded cases to 198,932.

There were no new cases reported among school staff but there were another eight cases among students reported Thursday.

Schools in Hidalgo County have reported a total of 4,863 staff members and 16,710 students have tested positive for COVID since the beginning of the school year in August 2021.

Cameron County health officials also did not report any COVID-19 related deaths on Thursday, maintaining their total number of COVID-related deaths at 2,227.

The county did, however, report 12 new cases among their residents which were all confirmed through a PCR test.

In Starr County, there was one new confirmed case and one new probable case while Willacy County reported three confirmed cases, according to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, or DSHS.

COVID hospitalizations throughout the Rio Grande Valley have remained low with a total of 54 patients hospitalized with COVID on Wednesday, according to DSHS data posted on Thursday.

Those 54 total patients included 36 general adult patients, 16 adult patients in intensive care units, and two pediatric patients.

Just in Hidalgo County, there were a total of 34 patients hospitalized with COVID, according to the county’s news release, which was down from the 44 reported on Wednesday.

The 34 patients included 31 adults and three pediatric patients. Of the adults, 11 were in the ICU.
