Hidalgo County COVID death toll at 2,900

For the second day in a row, Hidalgo County reported a single death due to COVID-19 on Tuesday.

A San Juan man in his 50s is the latest reported death caused by COVID-related complications, according to a news release issued by the county. His death raised the county’s total COVID-19 deaths to 2,900.

On Tuesday, the county also reported 83 new cases, 33 of which were confirmed and 50 were probable.

The county now has a total of 92,676 cases reported since the start of the pandemic, including 60,493 confirmed cases, 29,992 probable, and 2,191 suspected.

There are also 57 people hospitalized due to COVID-19. Of those, 21 patients are being treated in intensive care units.

Cameron County health officials also reported one COVID-related death on Tuesday for a total of 1,680.

There were 34 confirmed new cases in Cameron County, which raises its case tally to 41,995. The county currently has 2,455 active cases.

There were no new cases or deaths reported in Starr County; however, Willacy County reported 10 new confirmed cases, according to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
