A Houston man was arrested after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say he failed to tell them he was carrying nearly $80,000 in cash as he tried to cross into Mexico.
The officers say the 28-year-old man was stopped on Friday at the Gateway International Bridge as he attempted to drive into Matamoros.
During the outbound inspection CBP says officers discovered five packages containing $78,781 on the main and his vehicle.
CBP officers seized the cash and arrested the man. He was turned him over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
