The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday morning responded to a call of a person being held against their will at gunpoint and discovered 12 people inside the country illegally.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said deputies responded to a home on Alamo Road just north of Farm-to-Market Road 1295 at 6:15 a.m. in reference to a welfare concern.

“Initial call for service indicated a person was being held against their will at gunpoint,” the sheriff’s office said in the release.

Deputies located the residence where they found nine men and three women who were from various countries, including Guatemala and Mexico.

“No injuries were reported,” the release stated.
