A 16-year-old Mercedes resident died Tuesday evening after being struck by a car.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says the auto-pedestrian facility happened at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Mile 10 North, west of Mile 4 West in Weslaco.
The teen, Zitlali Diaz, was struck by a red Ford Mustang driven by a man traveling west on Mile 10 North.
Diaz was walking on the westbound lane on Mile 10 North, DPS says.
“The area at the time of the crash was dark, no light visibility and the roadway does not contain improved shoulders,” DPS said in a news release.
The driver, who remained at the scene, did not suffer any injuries.
DPS says the investigation continues.
