The Agua Special Utility District is notifying customers to boil their water before consumption.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the public utility district to notify their customers that due to low water production or low distribution pressure caused by power outages, customers should boil their water before washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.
Agua SUD serves customers on the west side of Hidalgo County and portions of Starr County.
“Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions,” the utility district stated in a news release.
Customers are advised to bring water to a “vigorous rolling boil” and then boiled for two minutes.
In lieu of boiling water, individuals can purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable sources for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
Officials will notify customers when boiling water is no longer necessary and water is safe for consumption.
If Agua SUD customers have questions about the notice, they can contact Aaron Castillo at (956) 240-7918 or Agua SUD at 3120 N. Abram Rd. Palmview, TX, 78572.
