Hidalgo man accused in hotel stabbing

A 33-year-old man is under arrest over allegations he stabbed another man at a Motel 6 on Sunday afternoon in Hidalgo.

Police charged Erasmo Humberto Rodriguez with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury.

The investigation began at around 4:55 p.m. when a concerned citizen waved down a police officer to report a disturbance at the hotel at 607 E. Coma Ave.

The officer made contact with Rodriguez, who had blood stains on his forehead. Rodriguez told the officer he had stabbed a man in self defense, according to an affidavit.

The man he is accused of stabbing, however, told police a different story.

He said he was in his room listening to music when Rodriguez came in and began yelling at him and knocking over furniture, police say.

Then he said Rodriguez slapped him twice before stabbing him in the left bicep, according to the affidavit.

The officer then arrested Rodriguez, who remains jailed on a $40,000 bond.
