Hidalgo County hits over 1,000 daily cases

Hidalgo County reported over 1,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday morning.

In a news release, the county announced 1,172 positive cases and 12 additional COVID-19 related deaths.

Of the 1,172 new cases, 551 are confirmed and 621 are probable. The county’s total now stands at 65,456 positive cases, of which 44,503 are confirmed, 20,006 are probable and 947 are suspect.

Tuesday’s COVID-19 related deaths include two women and three men from Mission, a woman and two men from Pharr, a woman and a man from Weslaco, and two men from undisclosed locations. The 12 deaths raise the county’s death toll to 2,452.

There were 417 people in county hospitals Tuesday morning, of which 146 were in intensive care units.

The county reported that an additional 1,164 were released from isolation, raising that total to 60,650. As of Tuesday morning, the county has 2,354 net active cases.

Hidalgo County has administered a total of 368,529 COVID-19 tests, and 302,416 have yielded negative results.

LOWER VALLEY

Cameron County received confirmation of 185 new cases there and nine additional COVID-19 related deaths.

The deaths include two women and two men from Brownsville, a woman and a man from Harlingen, a woman and a man from La Feria, and a woman from San Benito. The nine deaths raise the county’s death toll to 1,341.

Of the 185 new cases, 98 were Brownsville residents, 41 were from Harlingen, and 21 were from San Benito. The new cases raise the county’s total number of confirmed cases to 35,485.

The county also announced that 244 people had recovered from the virus Tuesday, raising that total to 28,745.
