Donation drive being held to benefit Friendship of Women

The Cameron County District Attorneys’ Office Crime Victims Unit Is hosting a drive-thru, contactless donation drive this morning to benefit the Friendship of Women.

Although the event runs from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. today, about $1,000 in donated items has already been received, said Yvette Vela, community education specialist for the DA’s Office.

“We’ve been so blessed with the donations we have already received,”Vela said.

The office is asking the public to show its support by donating hygiene supplies, which are needed by victims of domestic violence.

Preferred items include:

>>Shampoo
>>Conditioner
->>Feminine products
>>Toothpaste

People making donations are asked to drive up the front of the Cameron County Administration Building, at 964 E. Harrison St. in Brownsville, where staff and volunteers will approach your vehicle to take your donation. No monetary donation will be accepted.
