Cameron County health officials said eight more people have died from COVID-19 related causes in the past two days.
On Tuesday, the health department reported four deaths in Brownsville and one death in San Benito.
The individuals included three people in their 70s, one person in her 80s and one person in her 90s.
On Wednesday, two deaths were reported in Harlingen and one in Brownsville, according to a statement from Cameron County Public Health.
The individuals included one person in his 50s, one person in her 60s and one person in her 90s.
This brings the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Cameron County to 1,037.
Also, the health department said it has received confirmation of an additional 98 cases of COVID-19 here in the past two days, 55 on Tuesday and 43 on Wednesday.
This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases here to 23,127.
New cases were reported in Brownsville, Harlingen, Laguna Vista, Los Fresnos, Port Isabel, Primera, Rio Hondo and San Benito.
There have also been an additional 125 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 20,541.
