Rep. Vela’s statement in remembrance of the 19th anniversary of 9/11

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Brownsville) issued the following statement in remembrance of the 19th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

“Nineteen years ago, our country experienced an unprecedented and deplorable act of terrorism at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We somberly remember the 2,977 people who lost their lives, their families and the thousands that were injured on that tragic day. On that fateful morning, and in the weeks, months, and years that followed, America demonstrated that when faced with the worst of humanity, we would emerge more unified and stronger in our efforts to combat terrorism and hate.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the fallen victims and their families, the brave survivors, and courageous first responders whose bravery and resilience will never be forgotten. The selfless and heroic acts of civilians and first responders on that day and the days that followed exemplify the compassionate American spirit that cannot be broken.

“As we remember this tragic event, I pledge to uphold and protect the American values of liberty, justice, freedom, and peace. America will not back down in fear to terror, but instead remain resolute and united in ensuring its defeat. In our darkest hour, we came together as a nation. As we reflect on this somber day, let it also serve as a reminder that the fight continues to ensure our union stands firm and united against hate and terror, and that we should always strive to work together and support one another as we did following that tragic day.”
