BISD to hold emergency called board meeting today

The Brownsville Independent School District is having an Emergency Called Board Meeting this afternoon concerning the COVID-19 pandemic.

The BISD Board of Trustees will vote on a resolution relying on the Cameron County judge and Brownsville mayor to let school officials known when it is save to return to in classroom instruction.

The meeting begins at 1 p.m. at the district’s Administration Building, at 1900 E. Price Road.

A portion of the resolution reads: “The Cameron County Judge and Commissioners Court and the Mayor of Brownsville and Comissioner’s Court be notified the Board of Trustees is requesting an order from the Cameron County Judge and the Mayor of Brownsville that, until such a time to in-person instruction, all BISD schools shall remain closed for on-campus, face-to-face instruction for all school age students and shall not reopen for  face-to-face instruction until further discussion and a determination that it is safe for students, faculty and staff to return.”

“The Board further requests that to the greatest extend possible, internet  access be provided to students who do no have access to devices or internet that allow for them to meaningful participate in the District’s remote instruction program.”
