Harlingen cancels 4th of July fireworks display

The City of Harlingen has decided to cancel the annual 4th of July fireworks display this year because of the increasing numbers of coronavirus in the Valley.

The fireworks show was scheduled for July 3 and attracts thousands of area resident annually.

“As the COVID-19 numbers continue to increase in Cameron County and the Rio Grande Valley region, the City of Harlingen Administration out of an abundance of caution for the overall well-being of the community decided to cancel the fireworks display for this year,” the city announced in a news release.

As a reminder, free testing for Harlingen residents is still available at the UTRGV Regional Academic Health Center located at 2102 Treasure Hills Boulevard. This drive-thru site is open every Tuesday and Thursday by appointment.
