Several injured in stabbing, shooting; 1 in critical condition

The Edinburg Police Department is investigating a stabbing and shooting incident that resulted with at least one person in critical condition.

Police received a call at 3:27 p.m. about an incident in the 1200 block of East Canton Road on Wednesday.

“We had a disturbance there at the motel, and preliminary information shows that there were two people that were shot and one was stabbed,” Chief Cesar Torres said. “One of them is in critical condition. We’re currently interviewing people. It’s an active investigation.”

The man who was stabbed remains in critical condition, and the two men who were shot are receiving treatment with non-life threatening injuries, according to a news release from the police department.

“As a result of that investigation, we did have a high speed chase involving an individual that was involved in that incident,” Torres said. “That resulted in a minor accident.”

Torres could not confirm if the driver of the vehicle was apprehended.

He said that the police department is currently questioning several individuals and actively working the crime scene.

“You can call it an isolated incident, because that’s exactly what it is,” Torres said.

Authorities are not releasing any more information pending further investigation.
