An 86-year-old resident of a Harlingen nursing home has died from COVID-19 related conditions, Cameron County authorities reported on Saturday.
The woman was a resident of Veranda Nursing home and was a previously reported case, Cameron County Public Health said in a statement released Saturday evening.
This raises the number of COVID-19 related deaths in Cameron County to 33.
Cameron County has also received confirmation of an additional 12 case reports of COVID-19.
The new cases range from a 16-year-old boy in Harlingen to a 61-year-old woman from Brownsville.
In all, nine cases were reported in Brownsville, two in Harlingen and one new case in San Benito.
One case, that of a 34-year-old man from Brownsville, is travel related, the health department said.
Three cases, all in Brownsville, were community spread. The remainder of the cases are all linked to a previous case.
This raises the total number of COVID-19 cases to 698 in Cameron County.
There have also been an additional 18 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 473.
Cameron County Public Health continues to work with three nursing home facilities in addressing the COVID-19 outbreaks. To date, the Cameron County cases arising from the Veranda Nursing Home in Harlngen have included 32 employees and 61 residents who have tested positive, including 11 who have passed away.
The Windsor Atrium in Harlingen currently has 39 employees and 60 residents who have tested positive, including 16 individuals who have passed away.
Spanish Meadows in Brownsville also has five employees and 10 residents who have tested positive.
As part of the COVID-19 action response plan, Cameron County Public Health is conducting epidemiological investigations, contact tracing as needed, and continues to monitor the situation.
