Valley clinics to receive $1.5 million for COVID-19 testing

HARLINGEN — Three Valley health centers are the recipients of nearly $1.5 million in federal funding to expand the range of testing and related activities for COVID-19.

The funding, announced by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn last week, was  appropriated by Congress and distributed through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The grants are to the Brownsville Community Health Clinic Corp., $384,514, Su Clinica Familiar of Harlingen, $564,379, and Nuestra Clinica del Valle of Pharr, $504,979.

“In order to most effectively combat the spread of this dangerous virus in Texas, our health centers must be equipped to test for COVID-19 efficiently,” Cornyn said. “I’m thankful to the Trump administration for further expanding access to resting in the Rio Grande Valley.”

The grants to the three Valley health clinics are part of $31 million in federal funds that will be distributed to 72 health centers in Texas for expanded COVID-19 testing.
