Brownsville PD places officers on administrative leave after man’s death

The Brownsville Police Department placed three officers on administrative leave following an early morning shooting Monday that left a 20-year-old man dead.

Brownsville police shot and killed Mark Anthony Galvan after they say he rammed several squad cars after leading officers on a chase.

BPD Spokeswoman Melissa Gonzalez said the officers were placed on administrative leave with pay, per departmental policy.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.

In a press release, police said officers were responding to an assault call when Galvan led authorities on a chase at approximately 1:34 a.m.

Authorities said Galvan was pronounced dead at the hospital.
