HARLINGEN — An alert has been issued for Boca Chica Beach for high fecal coliform levels, according to the Texas General Land Office.
Texas Beach Watch issued alerts which show high levels of fecal coliform at Boca Chica’s six reporting stations.
The likelihood is the pollution has emerged from the mouth of the nearby Rio Grande to the south and is washing onto the beaches now.
At South Padre Island, medium levels of fecal bacteria counts have been recorded at both Isla Blanca Park as well as the beaches at Atwood Park.
