More than 50 pounds of cocaine discovered on Mexican bus

A Mexican national is in federal custody after attempting to smuggle more than 50 pounds to the United States on a commercial bus.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said officers working at the McAllen-Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge discovered 21 packages of cocaine hidden within a bus arriving from Mexico on May 20, according to a news release.

Fifty-six pounds of the drug has an estimated street value of approximately $432,500.

The 35-year-old suspect remains in the custody of Homeland Security Investigations, which is investigating the smuggling attempt.
