Undocumented immigrants found in apartment complex connected to Edinburg mayor, brother

U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended 18 to 20 undocumented immigrants Monday at an apartment complex connected to Edinburg Mayor Richard Molina.

Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Constable J.R. Gaitan said his office assisted agents in the raid, which occurred in the 2400 block of East Rogers Road in Edinburg.

Molina — who is currently in Austin, where he met with state legislators Monday in search of funding drainage improvements in the city — said the property is owned by a partnership between himself and his brother.

The mayor stressed that he does not run the apartment complex, and said his brother informed him of the situation but didn’t know more.

The U.S. Border Patrol investigation remains ongoing.
