With preparations to update its plans for future development, the city of McAllen is continuing to seek input from the public.

The city is hosting a community meeting Tuesday to give residents the opportunity to speak with city leaders and staff about the city’s comprehensive plan, the city stated in a news release.

“It’s important we hear from our residents, so as we plan for McAllen’s bold, sustainable future growth, we include what they would like to see,” Mayor Javier Villalobos stated in the release.

The finalized comprehensive plan will lay out the city’s vision for the next 20 to 30 years. It will guide the city’s decisions on transportation, infrastructure, land use, parks, economic development, community identity, development standards and incentives and implementation.

The project to formulate the comprehensive plan has four stages. The first was the initiation stage in which the city reviews the physical, demographic and economic context of the city.

That is done to develop a snapshot of existing conditions and identify potential recommendations.

Phase two is the drafting of the vision by seeking community input. The third phase will consist of developing the plan through community and stakeholder meetings and community surveys.

The last, fourth, phase will be to finalize the plan with the city commission.
