DPS: Driver fleeing police kills woman in 3-vehicle crash near Donna

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash that happened after a driver tried to flee from police.

According to a news release, the crash happened on Farm-to-Market Road 493, just south of Stites Road in Donna, at 2:45 p.m. Thursday.

“Preliminary investigation revealed a black Nissan Altima (occupied by one male) evaded law enforcement inside the city limits of Donna,” the release said.

The Nissan was traveling south on FM 493, as was a blue Saturn ION that was occupied by four people, including the driver.

On the opposite end of the road was a blue Toyota passenger car with one person inside.

The release went on to say that the driver of the Nissan made a u-turn in an effort to head northbound on FM 493, but the vehicle collided with the Saturn and the Toyota.

A woman in the Saturn died from her injuries at the scene. Her identity was being withheld until next of kin was notified.

The other three passengers of the Saturn were transported to local hospitals. The extent of their injuries was not known. The driver of the Toyota was also taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

The suspect, the driver of the Nissan, was transported to a local hospital. Authorities did not disclose what initiated the pursuit. DPS Troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.
