FBI agents arrest Mission mayor’s nephew

Jorge O’Caña Jr.

Multiple sources have confirmed that the FBI has arrested Jorge O’Caña Jr., nephew to outgoing Mission Mayor Armando O’Caña, and brother to Hidalgo County Court-at-law Judge Patty O’Caña-Olivarez.

A law enforcement source familiar with the situation confirmed that Jorge O’Caña was arrested at his home on Tuesday. Another person familiar with the situation said the home is on East Solar Drive just off of North Shary Road.

A spokesperson with the FBI would not reveal who was arrested, but did say that agents were in the area.

“The FBI can confirm court-authorized law enforcement activity in the Mission area. No further information is being released at this time,” said FBI spokesperson Lynda Gonzalez via an emailed statement Tuesday afternoon.

Reached by text message Tuesday, Armando O’Caña, who on Saturday lost his bid for reelection in a runoff against Norie Gonzalez Garza, declined to comment on the matter.
