U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than $1.5 million in narcotics at several Brownsville area international brides.
The first seizure took place Wednesday, Nov. 18 at the B&M bridge, when they say a 20-year-old U.S. citizen was ordered to undergo a secondary inspection of his black 2014 Volkswagen Jetta.
CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection. In secondary, CBP officers discovered two packages hidden within the Volkswagen Jetta.
Officer say they found nearly five pounds of cocaine hidden in the vehicle. It had a street value of $36,210.
The second seizure took place on Monday, Nov. 23, also at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge. They say 26-year-old woman from the U.S. drove from Matamoros to Brownsville in a gray 2007 Nissan Altima.
During the required secondary inspection, officers say they discovered several packages containing more than 71 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in the sedan. The meth was valued at $1,428,580.
On that same day, officers arrested a 41-year-old woman from Mexico and a 49-year-old man from the United States at Veterans International Bridge.
They say the couple drove into Brownsville in a black 2008 Dodge Journey. A secondary inspection lead to two packages of cocaine weighing nearly five pounds. The third seizure was valued at $38,080.
