The Cameron County Education Initiative awarded the Revival of Cultural Arts $10,000 to offer cultural and art programs to entire families.
The CCEI is a non-profit career training school that recently collaborated with Workforce Solutions Cameron, the Brownsville Foundation for Health & Education, and a large Texas Foundation to provide a career training program that benefits the entire family and some local non-profit organizations such as ROCA.
The partnership with ROCA and CCEI requires students who were enrolled in the Electrical Pre Apprenticeship program, the Patient Care Tech and Phlebotomy program to successfully complete, gain and retain employment to fully participate in the cultural programs.
“Our mission is to create opportunities that will engage the community to experience arts, music, dance, film, theater and cultural events with an emphasis on performing arts and visual arts education for everyone,” Hilda Ledezma, executive program director at the Brownsville George Ramirez Performing Arts Academy, said.
Career students participating and their families will receive other incentives such as memberships for the Gladys Porter Zoo and the Children’s Museum of Brownsville.
Families participating will have the opportunity to enroll in several different classes at ROCA such as film, digital media, acting, modeling, editing, marketing, podcast, illustration, web and graphic design.
There will also be dance classes that include ballet, tap, flamenco, folklorico, jazz and modern dance. Music classes will also be available such as piano, violin, cello, choir, orchestra, accordion and bajo sexto.
“CCEI has always been committed to helping families thrive. While in the past we focused primarily on career training, this time we partnered with another foundation and provided cultural and artistic opportunities for the entire family,” Rita Hernandez from CCEI said.
“Now, we can truly say [that] we have worked to create opportunities where the entire family thrives.”
