Bank robbery suspect arrested in Brownsville

HARLINGEN — A man was arrested Wednesday in Brownsville in connection to the Lone Star National Bank robbery on Ed Carey Drive, according to a Harlingen police press release.

Police said the male suspect was arrested without incident by Harlingen Police with the help of the FBI. The man is being held at the Brownsville Police Department on a charge of aggravated robbery.

According to police, the suspect entered the bank lobby at 1900 Ed Carey Drive Tuesday at 9:20 a.m. and approached a teller.

Police said witnesses and video surveillance showed the man demanding money from the teller after he showed the bank employee what appeared to be a handgun at his waistband.

The teller followed the bank’s safety protocols and gave the suspect money.

Investigators said the surveillance video showed the man ran from the bank westbound on Runnels Street and leaving in a gold or silver Nissan pickup. The suspect was wearing a black jacket, black and gray pants and a black mask.

No one was hurt during the robbery.
