Walmart announced they are temporarily closing the store located at 2205 E. Ruben Torres Sr. Blvd in Brownsville as part of a company-initiated program that will allow extra time for a third-party specialist to further sanitize the store.
The store closed at 2 p.m. Tuesday and will reopen its doors on Thursday at 7 a.m. Walmart said there are no plans to also temporarily close the other stores.
“As an essential business and member of the Rio Grande Valley, we understand the role we play in providing our customers with food, medicine, and other essential items during this time. We also understand this community has been hit especially hard by COVID-19,” a Walmart official said. “Health officials are working to curb the impact of this pandemic and we want to be a part of the solution by taking this proactive measure.”
Officials said these protocols will also allow extra time for associates to restock shelves and prepare the store to serve the community once again. When the store reopens Thursday, they will conduct associate health screening and temperature checks, provide associated with face masks and gloves.
“Everything we’re doing is for the well-being of our associates and customers, and in consideration of guidance by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and health experts,” officials said.
Walmart said they will continue working closely with health officials and adjusting how they serve the community while also keeping the health and safety of their customers and associates.
