CBP: Woman caught smuggling meth at Veterans bridge

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says officers arrested a young woman trying to smuggle hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal drugs at a Brownsville bridge.

According to an agency news release, on Tuesday officers at Veterans International Bridge ordered a 22-year-old U.S. citizen to undergo a secondary inspection of the 2006 Ford F-150 pickup she was driving.

During the inspection, which was conducted using an imaging system and canine unit, officers say the found seven packages weighing 38.44 pounds of methamphetamine. Federal agents say the drugs had a street value of $768,964.

CBP officers seized the drugs and the pickup. The woman was arrested and turned her over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents.
